Welcome to the Saint Bernard Bird Festival, a celebration of Southeastern Louisiana’s vibrant wildlife and natural beauty! 

Established in 2014, we are committed to showcasing avian beauty up close, educating the public, and preserving our local and migratory birds.

 

Friday, May 3rd, 2024                                                              

9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

*Bird festival opens with arrival of students from St. Bernard schools                                                                                       

*Bird capture and banding – Eric Johnson, Ph.D., Director of Conservation Science, Audubon Delta; activity in outdoor pavilion

*Woodcarving exhibits inside the Frank M. Fernandez Jr. Isleño Center

*St. Bernard Art Guild exhibit inside the Fernandez Isleño Center

*Purple Martin Exhibit – Krista Adams in outdoor pavilion

*Common Ground Relief Wetlands, LLC, presentation by Josh 

Benítez inside the Fernández Isleño Center

*Airboat tours of Waterbird Rookery, Big Mar, beginning at 8:00 a.m. three tours daily, three passengers per tour, outdoor pavilion for sign-in sheet

10:00 a.m.

Guided birding tour begins directed by Glen Ousset, outdoor pavilion

1:00 p.m.

Presentation by Chole St. Germain – Vermillion, Coastal Field Technician, Audubon Delta, entitled “New Orleans Rooftop Nesting Birds Program – Monitoring Our Urban Seabirds” in the Fernandez Isleño Center

1:30 p.m.

Guided native plant walking tour led by Linda van Aman, including discussion of the 2,000-year-old log along the trail.

4:00 p.m.

Festival closes
