Dear Friends and Neighbors,

It is hard to imagine that just a few short years ago; St. Bernard Parish was completely devastated by Hurricane Katrina.

We’ve received tremendous assistance from our local, state and national leaders but it was the faith-based community along with thousands of volunteers from across the globe that has kept us on the road to recovery.

Many of us would not have recovered without their personal commitment by giving unselfishly of their time and their resources just to help us and encourage us.  And it goes without saying that the citizens of St. Bernard will be forever grateful for their many acts of love and kindness.

Although we have thanked them many times over, an idea came up that would be a permanent symbol of the gratitude from the citizens of St. Bernard.

We are pleased to announce that the Port of St. Bernard has joined us in creating the “Tower of Lights” to be displayed on the 540’ Port of St. Bernard (Kaiser) tower.

This monumental display of lights will be our way of thanking those that came to help us in our time of great need.  The “Tower of Lights” will represent a person, a group, a church, a city, a state, a country, a service organization and so on.

In 2009, we started with Christmas colored laser beams and as funds become available, the “Tower of Lights” will evolve into a major St. Bernard attraction that we will all be proud of.

This gift of thanks to the world from St. Bernard will be paid for with private contributions and donations.

We need your help to present this historic gift to the world that came to our rescue in our greatest time of need.

We have an immediate need to cover the cost of this year’s display.  If you would contribute $100, $500, $1000, $2500 or $5000, we will be able to cover the cost.  We need your help right away so please mail your tax deductible contribution today to the St. Bernard Kiwanis Foundation, P.O. Box 212, Arabi, LA 70032.  You may also call any of the committee members below to pick up your contribution.

Sincerely,

Senator A.G. Crowe, Chairman                                       Dr. Robert Scafidel, Co-Chairman

Councilman-at-Large Frank Auderer                               Polly Boudreaux

Dr. Hugh Craft                                                                 Judge David Gorbaty
